What We Learned About 5G in 2015

2015 has seen the people who are going to create 5G in a lot of action even though the technology will not be ready until 2020.
What is clear is that 5G will be a lot different from 4G in terms of functionality. Unlike 4G, it will not just focus on making phones faster but will be created to serve many purposes with each one having diverse requirements. 2015 was the year of putting all the necessary things in place for this to be achievable.
As we enter 2016, many discoveries have been made. Progresses have been recorded. And we are looking forward to more of these in 2016. Researchers are now working on a lot of features on the new technology to make those things that were not possible a few years ago possible.
One of the things we should be looking forward to in 5G is Ultra-high frequency. When this is incorporated, it means that mobile phones services will be bring us better speed than before. This will enable us to do things requiring a mobile network, faster and longer, as the tiny batteries in mobile phones will be able to take up more work without dying a quick death. In fact, we could expect messages to be sent in a trickle so that activities, which are important, can be completed in a shorter period than before.
One of the debates about the fastness of 5G in relation to 4G is that it will be much faster. Many vendors such as Samsung, Ericsson, etc., have already proved that it can be achievable through tests – one of the test show that 5G, could be faster than the fastest LTE network, 50 times over.
However, fastness is not the only thing that the new technology needs. It also has to be slower so that other devices like sensors and meters can fit into the scheme of things. These devices are a bit different from the regular smartphones we are care so much about in that they don’t have much data to send but still need to use the network and last longer on tiny batteries. This calls for new options on radio networks and antennae – and this could necessitate the involvement of the government in the decision-making.
Another thing that the developers of 5G have to put into consideration are the things like self-driving cars and other devices in the same category. This means that the 5G have to be more robust in that it should not just include centralized data centers but also data surrounding such centers to accommodate more devices we have mentioned above.
There are definitely progresses on the development of 5G. One of this we have seen in the name for it: IMT-2020. But this also shows that we should only be looking forward to it without anticipating it.
